Event 3: Hox Zodiac

We are all different in shape, size, and DNA. However there is an underlying commonality that define body structure. This information is in a set of genes that is called Hox genes. All the living creatures have the Hox genes and the Chinese Zodiac is used as framework, therefore, we can relate ourselves to animals.

Since I was born in 1996, my animal is the Rat. Yin-Yang simply represent dark-bright, negative-positive, female-male. I am glad that I am a male and I have bright, positive characteristics. My organ is gallbladder, so that the rats can rule the gallbladder, which is a small organ where bile is stored until it is used in the small intestine. This reminded me of Week 6 topic, Biotech + Art. Rats are the most widely used animal to test and research. There is no doubt that rats have contributed to the Biology and Neuroscience. Rats are always used in any experiment that is to improve the medicine, healing, and etc...

According to the index cards that was displayed under the rat section, rats can eat the third of its body, and like meats. I eat a lot and like steaks. The picture on the right is the picture of Bupleurum root. They said that the Bupleurum root is good for me but it was the first time seeing this herb. I will go ahead and try this if I have any chance.

Hox Zodiac, Exhibition

At the entrance of this exhibition there was many flag-like paintings. There were the illustrations of each animals and their organs. There was a circle shaped craft on the middle of the floor that I almost stepped on. There are all twelve animals.

With the researches about the Rat's Zodiac, there are many interesting and fun facts that is related to the people who have rat as their Hox Zodiac. They say that rats earn money but they spend it. I will try not to overspend money. Rats are not romantic, I consider myself as not romantic as well, I will try to get better but not so sure. Also they recommended some ingredients like apples, almonds, corns, tomatoes and high protein foods. Fortunately, I like all of these ingredients. They provided us the dinner course. Appetizer was almonds. Main dish was dumplings and stew. Desert was cheese. All of these looked and tasted good.

I was inspired that the science can be interpreted in this way in art. As they can study about the animals, foods, and humans, they can link people, organs, foods, characteristics to an animal and the animals with these created with the creative thoughts and arts crafts.
