Event 1: Acoustical Visions, Bill Fontana

I have attended to the event "Acoustical Visions" by Bill Fontana, at UCLA Broad Arts Center. First of all, I was really confused by the title of the event. Nothing came up to my mind because I thought that "Acoustic" and "Vision" run counter to each other. However, I changed my mind after the event.

He said that the concept of Acoustic Visions grew out of his life long. The sounds that makes and the images that a sound makes and evokes. He is inspired for the large body of work have been primal environments, landscapes and structures.

First Power Point
During the event, Bill Fontana had power point that contains only few words, but many pictures of structures and views. He introduced some how he started his career as an Acoustical Vision Artist. As an artist, he actually planted a camera himself and let it be there and record the environments for some period. Between each pictures he turned on some sound recorded.

Bell

This is the bell he introduced during the presentation. The sound from the bell was a little bit spooky to me. I could think of some Japanese horror movie sound effect. I could sense some howling.

Lake

This is a lake located at Portugal. Once I heard the sound from the lake, I could think of the sound from the movie when some one was fall into water. There was a sound from the windmill located at the Portugal, I could hear some bird humming and sound created from the wind and plants are bumped against each other.

Golden Gate Bridge
This picture on the right is the Golden Gate Bridge located at San Francisco. He planted a camera on the top of the bridge, under the bridge. From the camera on the top of the bridge, I could here some wind flows. From the camera under the bridge, I could hear some sound caused by many cars.

Picture of Me
Overall, I would like to recommend to attend this event if possible. If you went to the place at the picture, you could focus more on the sound and could get totally different impression. If you never been to the place you can experience the environments and surroundings indirectly. If I had an opportunity I would love to be there and hear some more sound. He takes some questions during and after the presentation. He really tries to reply it and spends much time on the Q & A. After the event, I care more about the sound created in my real life. I would like to hear more about the sound. Hopefully, I could dig more into the "Acoustical Visions".
